Early Career

From Washington DC to the World Stage

Kevin grew up and played high school golf in the Washington DC area. He qualified for the 1976 U.S. Golf Association Junior Championship in Evergreen, Colorado. In 1977, his high school team captured the Maryland State High School Championship.

Kevin’s most pivotal early decision was beginning his study under Bob Toski at age 15 in 1975, a mentorship relationship that would shape his development as both a golfer and a teacher for the next 50 years. His junior record earned him a golf scholarship at Wharton County Junior College in Houston, Texas, where his team scrimmaged against Fred Couples and Ed Fiori.

Amateur Career

A Decorated Amateur Record on the National Stage

Kevin built a remarkable amateur career with high finishes in the Azalea Amateur, Eastern Amateur, Rice Planters Amateur, The Porter Cup, and the Dixie Amateur. His outstanding play in the 1981 North and South Amateur at Pinehurst Country Club earned him an exemption to the 1981 British Amateur at Royal Cinque Ports Golf Course in Deal, England.

Professional Career

PGA Professional, International Competitor, Head Teaching Professional

In 1985, Kevin was appointed Head Teaching Professional at Mission Country Club in Odessa, Texas. He continued competing on the Florida Mini-Tours and Caribbean Tours, recording five top-10 finishes in the Bermuda Open and Jamaica Open. In 1988, Kevin captured the West Palm Beach Invitational, defeating senior stars Dana Quigley and Tom Shaw. In 1989, the Toski-Battersby Golf Center was opened.
